Sestriere sits at 2,035 m on the pass between the Val Chisone and the Val Susa, the second highest village base on this site after Breuil-Cervinia. It was built as a purpose-made ski resort in the 1930s and hosted the alpine events of the 2006 Turin Olympics. The figures here cover Sestriere's own lift-served sector, about 57 km of piste over Monte Sises, Monte Motta and Monte Fraiteve, topping out at 2,786 m. One pass links it by lift to Sauze d'Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, Claviere and the French Montgenèvre, a circuit the operator markets as 400 km.
